Rt Hon Tony Blair MP
Prime Minister
10 Downing Street
London
Dear Prime Minister
It is heartening to know that the Government is seeking to address some of the problems arising from world poverty and I would urge you to keep this momentum going.
In particular, I would draw your attention to the Make Poverty History Campaign with its emphasis on establishing justice in trade, reducing world debt amongst the poorer nations and seeking to set up better Aid channels for these nations. I would hope that you can give this campaign your support and let its aims lie behind your thinking and actions during this year when our country has both the presidency of the EU and of the G8 summit meeting in Gleneagles this summer.
To you and to the Government is given the immense responsibility of leading one of the rich nations of the world on whom the judgement of posterity will be passed in due time. There could be no finer accolade coming from future generations than the one which concluded that you and your Government had achieved heroic things to make this world a fairer place where poverty did not reign.
Yours sincerely,
Rev Bill Slack
