Prayer Link for October

Sunday 2nd

Brechin: Rev Jon Bergen. We are praising God for the great Step Out program this summer and the good start to the school year as far as our Youth programmes are concerned.
Be in prayer for the general health of our church, both physically and spiritually. We have been hit hard with several members having serious physical health issues. Spiritually we are seeing new people coming to church on a Sunday morning and would love to see them continue and to learn more about our wonderful Saviour.
We are involved with many groups throughout our community with outreach, be in prayer for these opportunities as well. There is Baptism planned for October. We are so thankful for God’s leadership in our church.
The third item is that of our building project that is ongoing. There is a need of both time and patience with the process of working through the paperwork. And then the usual need of funds is never ending, but God will provide - that we can count on.

Bridge of Don: Rev Jarod Meenan. Based on the example of the Lord's visit to Mary & Martha's home, please pray that the Bridge of Don Baptist Church family would be increasingly committed to learning the Father's will from Jesus himself. We can see this happening through a renewed focus on the Bible as His Word, and a renewed commitment to dependence on Him through prayer. We also want to work hard to create an increasingly welcoming, loving community.
We would also be grateful if you would pray for all the people in Bridge of Don and around that they, too, will be caught up in what God wants to do in the area. Recently, we have been inviting our neighbours to community events based in our Church Centre.
Looking further ahead, over Easter weekend 2012, many of our members will be involved in two Passion Play performances at the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre, called "The Aberdeen Passion: One Life Given."

Sunday 9th

Bristo: Rev Jim Purves. Pray for our pastor and our deacons as we try to discern God’s will in several important areas of church life. We are seeking to become more missional and to relocate the manse. We also plan to undertake a mission audit of the various, very different neighbourhoods around the church to see how we can better target our outreach efforts to meet local needs. Pray for new and established outreach initiatives such as Bristo Boogie, a Friday afternoon coffee and chat followed by dancing, aimed primarily at over-50s, starting this month; iFriends, our Monday night international club; Home from Home, a simple conversation time for overseas people.
Give thanks for Bristo’s involvement in Healing On The Streets - Edinburgh and Lothians as part of a partnership of twelve churches of various denominations around the city of Edinburgh.
Pray for the people who go out on the street on the Royal Mile and Princes Street at least once a month, give out leaflets and pray for those who come seeking healing.
Pray too for our partnership with Bethlehem Baptist Church in Lom, Bulgaria.
Give thanks for the success of our mission trip there in June and pray for the next party of our members going out in September. Two of our members spent almost six months there earlier in the year - pray that God would open a door for that couple to return to continue the work they began before the summer.

Broughty Ferry Rev. Brian Talbot. Praise God with us for: excellent numbers in our Parent &Toddler work and in our Girl’s Brigade Company; new people coming to the church; successful ministry team trips to Romania and Serbia; chaplaincy work in local schools; new deacons and pastoral team members.
Pray with us for: wisdom regarding our major building project; a number of people with health issues, especially Ronald Small undergoing cancer treatment; Christianity Explored course this autumn; follow-up to our outreach event on 16 September, with Brian Irvine; clarity of vision for future direction of mission and ministry.

Sunday 16th

Broxburn: Rev Frank Murray. Praise God for: continuing contacts in the community through the work in schools, and through BBC KIDZ and BBC TEENZ; contacts with adults through the monthly coffee outreach, cafe church, Women’s Fellowship and MEN@BBC; cooperation with other churches in residential homes and joint services.
Pray for: those experiencing long-term health problems; guidance regarding the formation of a young people’s Bible Study; guidance in how to manage the wide age range of the small number of children attending junior church; any contacts made through Big Welcome Sunday.

Buckhaven: Rev Peter Carr. We welcome guests from America this month, who will work alongside the members in outreach to a needy area. With the children’s work recently up and running we are encouraged by their attendance, especially on a Sunday Morning. Our prayer is that we will see God's purpose for the town as we feel we need to show the Lord's love to the community. With the exterior and much of the interior newly painted we trust many will be drawn by the freshness of the building to the freshness of new life in Christ.
We have been busy as a fellowship litter-picking in the area and with the slogan Buckhaven Baptist Church: Caring for the Environment printed on yellow vests have shown our Church is a Church of action.
Please pray for the weekly Coffee Morning outreach and the Women’s work.

Sunday 23rd
Buckie: Rev Vince MacDougall. We have a harmonious fellowship with a sense of God's presence in our gatherings and are thankful for much blessing. We are burdened for the youth of our community and are seeking a vision to reach the next generation. There are a number of new people attending and showing interest.
Our assistant, Steve Oyarzabal, is fully trained and experienced and seeking a Church. He will be greatly missed. For more information see www.buckiebaptistchurch.org.uk

Burra Isle: Rev Derek Conabeer. We give thanks to God for another Children’s Holiday Club run again this summer. Again this year it took the form of a ‘Soccer School.’
13 'coaches' from various churches from the mainland assisted in the running of the school, teaching 'football skills' and leading sessions from the Bible and discussion groups. We also had invaluable input from Brian Irvine, former Aberdeen & Scotland footballer. Almost 50 children enrolled from Burra & other parts of Shetland.
Please pray as we follow up many family contacts that were made through the Club. We are also very grateful to the Lord that, in spite of not making a charge for the Club, all our costs were met.
This year we plan to renovate our Church Hall in Hamnavoe, beginning in the autumn. The hall was built in 1964 and is now ‘dated’, being especially cold in winter. Please pray that again we may see the Lord’s provision so that we will be able to make the hall more ‘user friendly’ and effectively used for the kingdom.

Sunday 30th

Calderwood: Rev John MacKinnon. Pray for wisdom for the leadership as we seek to know God's will with regard to acquiring more accomodation for the increasing numbers of people who worship with us and especially pray for our missionaries Thomas and Jillian McNeil as they serve the Church in the new South Sudan.

Cambuslang: Rev Brian Graham and Associate Pastor Rev Joy Weightman. Give thanks for the large number of children attending Arkonauts, a mid-week club for P1-7, and for Brian’s continued involvement as Chaplain of the local primary school.
Pray too for Café Chat, a recent initiative, where people can come and find “a listening ear” while enjoying tea or coffee. Pray that this will help us build bridges with those outwith the church.
Pray also for those attending the Alpha Course, currently running, that by the completion they too will know the joy of acknowledging Jesus as Lord.
